Ivan’s 2004 Subaru WRX Wagon

Ivan’s 2004 Subaru WRX Wagon

We get a lot of images of pretty sick cars sent to us here at Klutch Wheels but every now and then one photo makes us spit out our coffee and scream at everyone in Klutch HQ to come check it out. This week that photo was sent in by Ivan Tarula, and we think you can agree, his 2004 Subaru WRX Wagon is one of a kind.

So we gave Ivan a call and set up a meeting so we could take some photos of his amazing ride and ask him a few questions about his project.

So, Ivan, that’s a pretty incredible WRX Wagon you’ve got there with a lot of work done on it. How long did the project take you?

Can you believe that I’ve actually had this car for almost six years? But it wasn’t until the tail end of 2016 that I got started on the project that you see today. That was when I got the idea for the theme, and it all snowballed from there.

It’s an ongoing project so it could be a while before it’s completely finished.

There are so many to choose from, and we think we know the answer already but what’s your favorite feature?

That would have to be the paint. It’s the feature that started the whole project and got me thinking about how I could modify the car to make it one of a kind.

It might sound like a stupid question (everyone loves a WRX) but why did you choose this car?

Ever since I heard the Subie rumble for the first time, I’ve always wanted a WRX, and the wagon is the model I liked the most. So as soon as I could afford one, I went out and bought it.

You said it’s an ongoing project, does that mean that you have a lot of plans for the car?

Yeah, I’ve got plenty of plans for the future. At the moment, I’m in the process of building an EJ257 forged block with a VF39 ported and polished turbo. I haven’t decided what heads to use yet, you know, one step at a time.

Once that’s done, I think I’ll go widebody with the car next and maybe go with a solid color with no airbrushing. After that, who knows?

The car is perfect as far as we’re concerned but if you could turn back the clock, is there anything that you would have done differently?

I would have taken my time with the build.

I had SEMA 2017 just around the corner when I started this, and I was pretty eager to have the car ready. I rushed a few things that I really would have liked to spend a little more time on.

Not a major deal though as I have plenty of time to work on it now.

So is there anyone that you’d like to thank for helping you out with the build?

Yeah, there are so many people I’d like to thank. Rigo Padilla for the killer paintwork and Lesa Lothrigel for providing the materials. Klutch Wheels (of course) AWDsome Lifestyles, Bamshifts, Federal Tires, R1 Concepts, XK Glow, and JDM Emergency.

And last but by no means least all my friends and family for the support they’ve given me throughout the build.

Thanks for the shout out Ivan and thanks again for letting us grill you on this awesome Wagon of yours. If you’d like to see some more shots of Ivan’s WRX and follow his progress on the build, then check out his Instagram @04poswrxwagon.
